Frank C. Kunz
KUNZ Frank C. Kunz, born in Columbus, Ohio on November 8, 1919; deceased January 8, 2012. Frank was a graduate of Central Evening High School, where he focused his education on "Commercial Studies" which included typing, bookkeeping, accounting, shorthand, transcription, and business English. Frank was living in Washington D.C. when he entered the U.S. Army on December 5, 1942 at Fort Meade, Maryland. He proudly and honorably served during WWII as chief clerk for over three years in General Douglas MacArthur's Press Relations Office in Australia, New Guinea, and the Philippines. Frank attained the rank of Master Sergeant. He was awarded the Legion of Merit for, "exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services in the Southwest Pacific Area". Upon completion of the his active Army career, Frank served as Director of the Franklin County Veterans Service Center until retiring after 38 years of service. Frank was dedicated to and took special interest in the well-being of all veterans wherever and whenever they served. He was an active member since 1945 and Past Commander of the American Legion Post 144. He is preceded in death by wife Lucilia Maria Kunz, brother Charles, and sister Martha. He is survived by his dearly loved and cherished companion, Martha J. Hamilton; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Dora; brothers, Joseph, Vernon (Muriel), and John; grandchildren, Kerri M., Nicholas J. (Kirsten), and Ashley L; great-grand-sons, Dylan A. and Gavin N. Kunz. Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2012 and 9-11 a.m. Wednesday at RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, 515 High Street, Worthington, where Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Private Family Interment. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Frank's memory may be made to any charity benefiting veterans.
